From Old Man Brady to Old Man Sanders: Your Weekly Briefing

For once in a long time, a lot transpired in the news this week that doesn't involve politics.  Find out what records were broken in Super Bowl LI, what Tom Brady lost (no it's not the game), and what the heck Bernie Sanders and Ted Cruz debated about.

Super Bowl LI: Breaking records but losing gear
On Sunday night, the New England Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons by a score of 34-28 in overtime.  Not only was this game considered the "best" Super Bowl game in the history of the National Football League, but a multitude of records were broken that night.  First off, Super Bowl LI was the only Super Bowl to ever go into overtime.  Second, the largest comeback in Super Bowl history was 10 points until Sunday night, where the Patriots went on a 31-0 run after being down by 25 points in the third quarter.  Finally, and probably most significantly, Tom Brady continued to set records by getting his fifth Super Bowl ring and his fourth Super Bowl MVP, the most in history.  Unfortunately, Tom Brady was forced down from Cloud 9 after finding out his game jersey had been taken from his equipment bag.  Although, this is only the second most valuable piece of memorabilia ever lost, second to Robert Kraft's Super Bowl ring currently in the possession of Vladimir Putin.

Super Bowl Commercials: Making a statement
Every year, millions of individuals tune into the big game simply to watch the creative or odd commercials that tend to stand out.  Considering the divisive year America has had, many were anticipating political statements from various companies.  For example, Budweiser's commercial took a subtle shot at our current immigration policy, 10 Haircare's commercial took a shot at our President's hair, and even Lady Gaga's halftime performance took a shot at our country's diversity.  This year, many individuals were disappointed with the content of the commercials, while some individuals were simply annoyed with the various political statements.  According to public opinion, the most annoying commercial was overwhelmingly this advertisement...

Debate Night: Sanders vs. Cruz?
On Tuesday night, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders faced off against Texas Senator Ted Cruz in a debate on the fate of Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act.  The CNN Exclusive was hosted by Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, and featured both runner-up candidates from the Democratic and Republican primaries.  While the event was promoted as a debate, the format also consisted of questions from the audience, in the form of a town hall.  Senator Sanders took to defending Obamacare and the necessity to reform certain aspects of the act, while Senator Cruz explained his desire to have the ACA repealed and replaced simultaneously.  Naturally, Ted Cruz fielded some difficult questions from the audience and was forced on the defensive for the majority of the night.  There was even some speculation that CNN wrote the questions ahead of time, rather than allowing local individuals to ask their own questions.  This conspiracy came after a camera caught a woman holding a slip of paper that said, "Your Question."

Although nobody cares if it was written by CNN or the woman because no one was watching the debate.

  1. I am very upset that the Patriots won the superbowl. As an eagles fan, I have despised the Patriots ever since they beat the eagles in the superbowl about a decade back. This was a very entertaining post to read. I will be coming back here for weeks to come!

  2. Another great post! I didn't watch the Superbowl or the debate, but I certainly appreciate the humor nonetheless. I thought it was rather strange that CNN hosted a debate between Sanders and Cruz, but hey I guess without the election they're running out of ideas for how to fill their primetime.

  3. I guess CNN is starting to miss those election season ratings now that they have Trump or Conway on about every 5 minutes. I was surprised at how tame this debate seemed compared to last year's; maybe things are slowly going back to normal?
